The Vietnamese Life In A Village Over The Sea
Humans are able to adapt themselves to the harshest environments
. Where nature refuses to be dominated, overcome only ingenuity and perseverance. Vietnam floating communities are a proof of the infinite possibilities of the human being.
Houses, markets and shops: a whole community is floating in the middle of the stunning scenery of Ha Long Bay. There the fishermen joined different pieces of wood, bottles, cans, etc. to build the village on the water. The rich fishing grounds of the place was enough for many to think about living on floating structures, establishing themselves at homes that inexplicably remain at sea without having any direct contact with mainland.
It is a unique experience to see these people. It is estimated that at least 4 000 people live in these floating villages just off the coast, at a reasonable distance from the town of Cat Ba. They have a school, shops, and everything they need to live. Villagers refuse to quit their houses in the water. The most popular floating communities are Cua Van, Ba Hang, Cong Tau, and Vong Vieng.
All of them have many cultural values that have been preserved and transmitted from generation to generation. Especially Cua Van treasures songs of love and marriage. This is one of the larger towns, with wooden boats in which are carried out all kinds of activities, including fruit and vegetable markets. By visiting these villages, you will have the opportunity to learn the activities of fishermen, as well as the traditional culture of Ha Long Bay.
The lifestyle is completely linked to fishing and shellfish extraction given by the impossibility of cultivating in the area. Every morning the villagers go in search of sustenance. It is curious that every house in the floating village of Ha Long has at least 2 dogs to look after the house of potential thieves, while the owners are absent. Located in the northern province of Quang Ninh, Ha Long Bay has a total of 1 969 islands, huge caves, 200 species of fish and 450 different kinds of mollusks.
Ha Long Bay was recognized by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage Site for its outstanding and geographic aesthetic in 1994 and for its geomorphological values in 2000. Given the size of the bay is essential to enroll on a cruise to enjoy the beauty of all this natural landscape. This is a fascinating show for your
holidays to Vietnam.
There are many companies dedicated to tour the bay in beautiful wooden boats, some do it on day trips and other on a journey of a couple of days, staying a night on board. Transportation from Hanoi is usually included, as well as food-fish and seafood of the day-to be taken on board. The tours usually start early in the morning from Hanoi to arrive three hours later at Bai Chay, dock from which many of the cruises departs. Another option is the nearby Marina Tuan Chau.
