"Day Seventeen," I say.

"What about Day Seventeen?" asks Xaba. "We finished the course, at the river. When I emerged from the bush, the Captain was waiting for us. On one side was the table with the wonderful food, condensed milk, bread and Coke. 'Congratulations,' he said. 'You have succeeded.''Thank you,' I said, walking past him. 'No fucking emotions,' he said. I walked on, grateful."

"Your selection course was different," Xaba says. "Time to get some rest".

Do you remember the day we bumped into those two hardened DSpecial Forces Operators onPretoria station?" I ask Xaba. "We were on our way to the operational area." "I don't remember," he says. "Yes man, seasoned chaps! The one even asked us who we were and where we were going. We were a bit jittery. They had quite a reputation, especially the one. His eyes were hard and wild. When he heard my name he said: 'Aren't you the one that wants to become a minister?' That was when he said: 'Just stay away from me! I don't have time for things like "that! ' Do you remember now?" Xaba nods and says: "He also died a while ago."

"I also remember the night at the fire, four years later. Our leader was excited. 'There has never been such a formidable group of Reccesdeploying together,' he said. It was a rare occasion. There were a lot of us, probably about thirty.
