The steel slag ball mill machine consists of horizontal barrel, feed and discharge hollow shaft, and the grinding head. The barrel is long-shape cylinder with grinding medium inside, and is made of steel plate. Generally the grinding medium is steel pellet and is loaded into the barrel according to different diameter sizes and certain ratio. The grinding medium can adopt the steel section and choose by the grinding materials particle sizes. The material goes into the barrel from the grinder mill feed end hollow shaft. When the ball mill cylinder rotates, the grinding medium sticks to the lining plate of the cylinder and moves upwards it by the inertia, centrifugal force and friction force to certain height and then falls down due to its self weight, and the falling grinding medium crushes the material in cylinder into pieces.

The material enters into the ball mill grinders first chamber from the feed device by the feeding hollow shaft spirally and uniformly. There is ladder lining plate or ripple lining plate with different types of steel balls. And the material is ground roughly then enters into the second chamber by the mono-layer isolation plate which has flat scale plate and steel balls, and the material is ground again. The powdery material is discharged from the unloading plate.

When the cylinder is rotating, the ball mill grinding medium may slide down. In order to use the sliding function to grind the material, isolate the grinder cylinder to two sections, called double bin when the materials particle size reaches to 20 meshes. The material is crushed in the first chamber, and then ground by the steel end in the second chamber. The finished products are discharged from the discharge end hollow shaft. For the material of little particle size, such as the No.2 sand slag and the thick coal ash, there can be no isolation plate, only the single chamber grinder, and the grinding medium can use the steel section only.
