The World Cup 2010 - The USA vs Ghana

WASHINGTON, DC The USA has some business it wishes to finish with Ghana. On Saturday, the teams will be meeting in round 16 of the World Cup. At the finals in Germany, 4 years ago, Ghana triumphed over the USA with a 2-1 win in the group stage. There was a lot of controversy with this game. Markus Merk the well respected German referee kicked in first-half injury time to notch the game-winner. Ghana then went forward to compete with Brazil , while the Americans came in last in there group with just one point.

Landon Donovan, who took over Reyna's position with the team as the creative leader, can remember the match very well.

"I was not having a good day that day and neither was the team, the thing i remember the most was my tentativeness and the feeling straight after wards of how final it was and the great disappointment." Donovan informed the South African media. "I have already put it to the back of my mind and this is our opportunity to really rise to the occasion."

Bruce Arena, the American coach had his direction of the team, questioned that day. To be perfectly honest the U.S team didn't play to it's full potential and made to many errors. Coach Bob Bradley this time around, appears to have the right tactics and the U.S guys will be going into the match with discipline and tightness as a team.

Donovan had a difficult World Cup in Germany and never came into his own. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., resident, four years later, is now right up at the top of his game. Scoring two massive goals in three games at these finals, and very notably winning late on Wednesday going up against Algeria, Donovan has boosted his amount of goals in an American jersey to 44 in 126 games. This is one record that will be standing for a long time.

"Next one we face is Ghana, we realize if we were to win that game it would be Uruguay and South Korea. I can't point out enough what a big chance this is and we need to take advantage of it" said Donovan.

After moving forward from the group stage, Donovan, who scored, says the players now feel not as pressurized.

"It is simple in many ways," he goes on "You lose, you go home, there was one game" There are no other results or ramifications with other games".

The USA has an excellent chance of defeating Ghana. The African team has only managed to obtain two goals and both of them were penalties from Asamoah Gyan.

It's going to be a difficult game against Ghana. Beaten and bruised the U.S players find themselves in the position of having just a mere two days to recover and get rest. But after coming off a huge win the Americans now have momentum, while Ghana is coming off a loss and more then likely the last hope Africa has got at these games.

At a post game interview Donovan said "We're not done yet".

The team was called by Obama - President Obama gave the American team a call after its dramatic triumph when they went up against Algeria and spoke to the players via a speakerphone.

The players received the call after they had dinner in the meal room at the team hotel.

A press release issued by U.S soccer stated the President informed the players that when he was in a meeting with General Petraeus in the Oval Office, he heard the West Wing erupt when Landon Donovan scored the goal that won the match.

Donovan was then congratulated by the President for achieving the goal, the President then proceeded to ask Tim Howard how his ribs were doing and also asked Clint Dempsey how his lip was.

"To have President Obama speak to our team certainly was a wonderful honor", says Bradley. "We are incredibly proud to have the chance to represent the United States, and to have the President strengthen the feeling of support is something we are very thankful for. Also the back up and support we have got from the U.S fans that took the time out to travel to South Africa and also all the people following the matches back home has been very rewarding and a point of inspiration for our players. All this support is something we will be taking with us as we step on the field this weekend."
