The World Cup At Work: How To Plan Ahead
When the World Cup rolls around, you may find that your company's overall internet
bandwidth at work becomes under strain as people do not want to miss any of the action whilst still at work and find the latest information to follow the headlines too. Employee productivity may suffer, as well as soaring
business electricity costs, can be a problem during the world cup, but there are various ways in which to overcome these problems.
Keep the dates in mind
If you know when all of the world cup games are and when all the really popular games will be held, you will find it a lot easier to ensure that not too many members of staff take the same day off. If there are a lot of employees who want to watch the games, why not make a roster to allocate which days they can take off. Or, you could just make it first come first served.
Let them watch it
If there are enough people to staff the office, you could let your staff watch the game in a boardroom or staff room. This way the internet bandwidth would remain for work use only, and the employees would be sharing a television together, which would cut down on the amount of electricity consumed. Besides, everyone could use a fun day at work once in a while, and it would reduce the amount of people phoning in "sick".
Get behind it
If you can't beat them, you may as well join them. Sometimes you have to admit defeat. Have a dress down day or even a dress up day in the colours of different nations. It's been a while since the Christmas party, so perhaps you could arrange a World Cup party for your employees to release their pent up football energy.
So, if you decide to be a scrooge and ban football related discussions, internet searches, and dismiss the idea of having a World Cup party, don't be surprised when three quarters of your workforce call up sick with "Rooneyitus" or a case of the "Lampards".
