The largest hotel in the world is the Venetian/Palazzo complex in Las Vegas

, Nevada. This $1.5 billion, 50 storey structure began life as The Venetian in 1999, following the implosion of the Sands Hotel in 1996 in order to make space. The Palazzo extension was completed in April 2008, making the combined efforts of The Venetian and The Palazzo the largest hotel in the world.

Its 7,117 rooms, 50 restaurants, and in-house department store make for an overwhelming visit. It is a city within a city according to Las Vegas Sands Corporation (Palazzo's parent company) president William Weidner.

With a heavy baroque style dcor encompassing every inch of the interior and exterior, the hotel is in a world of its own. Excess and flamboyance are at home here, as are an array of A-list celebrities, enticed to perform at the world's most impressive, if not tasteful, accommodation. On its opening, Jay-Z was the resident star, running his very own 40/40 nightclub within the hotel.
