The benefits of Blu-Ray – This generation's DVD
As time has gone, storage for films and TV series have got smaller and smaller
, from the bulky VHS cassette to the slimline DVD and as such, they are more convenient to display in store and much easier to store in the home too. Now though the battle is to make these discs bigger, not in terms of size but in terms of their capacity; DVDs can typically hold 9GB's of data which roughly equates to a feature length movie, a few audio tracks including foreign languages or director's commentary and subtitles and all this in a compressed format.
Now though, we can fit much more on the latest storage medium, Blu-Ray and the sound and images stored on these are uncompressed, meaning they are of a higher quality and are perfectly in line with advances in HD TV. The Blu-Ray disc can hold anything up to 50GB's due to the advances in lasers and encoding and this means that companies are able to provide video quality of the like that has never been seen before; high definition is now a must for most homes. Not only is the picture vastly improved but so too is the audio as the increased space allows audio with less compression and a sharper true to life' sound quality for ultimate home cinema experiences.
Blu-Ray discs don't work with regular DVD players as the discs require the blue laser that operates at a higher wavelength that allows more to be stored on a BluRay disc, DVD players use a red laser diode which will be unable to recognise the BluRay but there are many BluRay players now available including one built into the Sony Playstation 3 video games console.
BluRay players can play regular DVDs so if your DVD player is getting on a bit then upgrading to a BluRay player can be the perfect solution and can bring you right up to date with the latest in home video entertainment. Most modern films are now shot with high definition cameras, The Dark Knight even used the IMAX cameras for sections of the film and can look stunning on BluRay, other releases such as the BBC Planet Earth series are worthwhile additions to anyone's BluRay collection as the breathtaking photography and techniques used give you a chance to witness mother nature in all her glory.
The latest TVs are crying out for BluRays to fully showcase their abilities and can be perfect when you want to fully experience movies, music and TV shows in high definition.
Modern
LED TVs can provide great picture and colour and
Blu Ray Players are fast becoming a household feature in most homes.
