The city of Perth

The main town of the county of Perthshire, Scotland is the City of Perth

. However to many locals it is also known as the "Fair City" and "St John's Town". Up until around the 1450's this was actually the capital of Scotland before the then king James I decided to make Edinburgh the country's capital.

This city unlike Glasgow and Edinburgh is not only flat but also extremely compact. So navigating your way around it proves very easy indeed. As you would expect from such an important city in Scotland, Perth has much to offer to those who visit it. As well as great shopping there are plenty of places to enjoy superb food and of course try a dram or two of whiskey.

As the city is at the heart of the County of Perthshire is also makes the ideal place to use as a base to then explore more of what this part of Scotland has to offer. Actually getting to many of the attractions that surround the city of Perth is relatively easy. You can of course drive, but if you want to relax on your holiday then why not use this part of Scotland's public transport (buses and trains).

However if you just want to spend your time in the city there are plenty of things worth visiting whilst there. To places worth visiting are Scone Palace and St John's Kirk. Plus also there is Balhousie Castle in which a museum dedicated to the Black Watch Regiment of Scotland is to be found and who actually have their regimental base on Dunkeld Road, Perth.

If you are looking for somewhere that gets you away from the city's hustle and bustle then head towards Craigie or Kinnnoull Hills. Both of these provide you with walks through spectacular forests that at the uppermost points provide you with some truly amazing views of Perth city.
