The dangers of Margaine
Today I want to give you some information on the topic of Margarine vs Butter.Margarine was invented by a French food chemist in 1869 as a cheap substitute to butter. It has typically been a "food for the poor" but has become more popular in recent times. Margarine spreads easily; does not melt if you leave it on the bench, its less messy.and its also turning to plastic in your heart. Wait what was that last bit?! I will explain more in a moment but first let me tell you about the major risks when consuming margarine:
Margarine lowers your GOOD cholesterol, not the BAD one.
Trans fats contained in Margarine can lead to cancer
Margarine is one molecule away from being a plastic (remember it was "invented" in a lab!)
There are two types of Cholesterol, the good (HDL or High Density Lipoproteins) which protects us against heart attack and heart disease, and the bad (LDL or Low Density Lipoproteins). Firstly when Margarine claims it can "lower your cholesterol" they fail to tell you that it lowers the GOOD cholesterol which your body needs for healthy heart function. Secondly most brands of Margarine do not disclose the percentage of Saturated fats they contain as this stimulates the body to create cholesterol anyway.
Margarines also contain something known as trans-fatty acids. Most of you will already know that these are very bad for you and that our cellular membranes cannot incorporate them leading to deformed structures. This can lead to increased cancer risks, promote inflammation, accelerates aging and produces degenerative change in tissues.
Finally Margarine is one molecule away from being plastic. Yes this is why it can lead to you having plastic within the arteries of your heart. Also the worst part is that stress adds the extra molecule needed for Margarine to turn to plastic in your body. And we all have stress at some point in our lives.
To prove this fact try a little experiment, place a tub of Margarine in your garage or a shaded area and watch what happens. No fly's, cockroaches, birds, or any type of animal will come near it. This is because it has no nutritional value and shows that we are spreading melted Tupperware on our toast!
So in conclusion here is a simple change you can make that will boost your health quite a bit. This should be an easy one to give up and your body (especially your heart) will thank you for it!
Just one more thing, the trap for new players is that they are now hiding the fact that a product is Margarine so make sure it says butter on the packaging.
Of course, there are healthy alternatives to both butter and margarine such as avocado, nut butters or hummus (we love our hummus!), but if a recipe will only work with butter or margarine then choose butter. So my suggestion is that you keep your butter intake to a minimum but cut out margarine all together! It's a nasty little extra toxin that our bodies could do without. We have enough other things to process without adding this one to the list.
