Today software developers don't have many problems when it comes to distributing new releases via Internet download and even collect online payments. In spite of the current growth, distributing shareware software over the internet was not always so popular. The concept appeared in 1980 and it was a great way for the small developers to reach the international market. However, many consumers consider shareware' applications as amateur products. In addition, there are many bad-intentioned companies out there, especially Asia-based companies who are trying to sabotage the shareware and the freeware market in order to take over the industry.

The consumerization of the IT market evolves relatively slow and the battle between small, promising companies and companies without scruples have become even more intense. To be honest, it is part of the competition, but it disturbs us to see that not all things are fare in war. Unlike small companies that are trying to promote their products through shareware websites, other companies are trying to take over the market using inadequate measures. One of the most common techniques to sabotage software companies, who serve their users more than they serve corporate overlords, is to over flood the market with their products.

Their measures actually show a desperate attempt to regain their market share, lost due to lack of quality, high prices and aggressive marketing. In return, we see software companies who amaze with their creativity, commitment to the needs of the customer and convenient prices.

Choosing to distribute software solutions through shareware websites affects in great measure the huge software corporations trying to maintain their prices and word wide domination. Recent studies indicate such companies have captive audiences', settling for lame software featured under reputable brands. Of course, each situation is different, but when the competitive bar is low, a door is open. At this point, flooding the market with low quality software is suddenly possible. Up to a point.

In the end, the final word belongs to the end user, who has the power to choose according to his own principles. We know it is hard to identify the developers who put passion in making software and applications, or the time they dedicate to make sure everything is perfect. Sometimes, corporations win even if their products are meant to produce cash and to please CEO's and never address users and public plaudits.

If this rings a bell, then are you going to do something about it? Perhaps we are entering a new age, where open sources, shareware sites and freeware software can blur the borders between developers, vendors and users, at al levels. We can only hope.
