Robert Osbourne, a futurist friend and whom i sought views while writing this article told me that the future my computer will be whatever screen my phone is connected to and not connected physically either. This is well demonstrated by Apple showing with its AirPlay system where a smartphone or tablet like iPad is perfectly capable of streaming content wirelessly without any hindrance. I grew up with PC before conversion to Mac at teen and now we are just at the beginning of the post-PC'era. Jason Roberts who is in San Francisco recently predicted that by 2017 Tablets will overtake PC in both market and usage because times are changing fast. Tablets represent nothing less than a dramatic new opportunity to break free of the constraints of the PC era.

The iPad is quickly showing that people are finally ready for a more intimate computing experience than the one provided by their laptops but now, they want it in an easier to read and use package than a smartphone. After reviewing the video there's nothing particularly notable about the iPad 2 as compared to the one I'm using. I agree it's thinner, faster, and more capable than the original, but it's basically the same device in terms of what it allows the user to accomplish modest exceptions such as iMovie and GarageBand aside. All the planets are aligning around lightweight 9-inch-or-so screens that can go all day on a single battery charge and fit comfortably in a purse or backpack.

Post-PC debate doesn't mean that all of a sudden Personal Computers will suddenly vanish and the discussion reminds me of televisions that didn't really "kill" radio which is why computers have yet to kill televisions as well. In my analysis there's room for multiple devices for average use in home, road, office and institutions. For companies in technology and media industry to remain relevant they need to pay attention to these trends. I recognize that we wouldn't have gotten here without the PC, but we're ready to move beyond it with iPad and Galaxy and others. And at the moment, Apple offers easily the strongest combination of product, price, and services for those interested in the tablet market. Jobs said time and time again Wednesday that he believes 2011 will be the year of the iPad 2, and while that remains to be seen, it's clearly going to be the year of the tablet.

In my school of thoughts, these devices are allowing software developers and designers like me to break over reliance on the keyboard which is based on the 19-century typewriter and mouse input devices to a more natural series of buttons, gestures, and even voice commands. I have six years without using a computer PC and have no regrets and my fear is that my MAC could be a victim of this evolution as well. This is because what we are seeing are not flashes in the pan offers and Tablets offers new ways to combine human ingenuity and processing power. The sooner we get out of PC generation the better.
