Every time the Pakistan ISI opt for noisy riotous and emotionally charged street action in Kashmir, her local collaborators and mainstream mentors shout "Intifada" and declare that the exit of India from Kashmir was imminent. The assertion was backed by images of shrieking youth and threatening mob on the TV screens beamed in drawing rooms and bed rooms across the country. This happened in the early days of of militancy in early nineties and again in 2008 when an agitation was fraudulently contrived in Srinagar leveling ridiculous charge that India was trying to change the demographic character of Kashmir by establishing "Palestine like" settlements on 38.88 hectares of land diverted to Shri Amarnath shrine Board for use during the Yatra period. People saw through the game and refused to be exploited .The issues of economic blockade did not click either.. The "Muzaffarabad Chalo" march proved counter productive. The massive voter turn out in elections should have taught some restraint to these elements . But incorrigibles will be incorrigible.
Certain parts of the Kashmir valley have been "on the boil" for last about five months. The ISI lover boys were again at it . The very same combine with some new and more "prominent faces" repeated their favourite war cry of eruption of "Intifada" . The Indian state , they argued must quickly accommodate their demands if it intends to preserve even a semblance of foot hold in Kashmir otherwise start packing up.
. The ultra liberal fringe in our society ,always eager to join the dooms day lobby chipped in as before. While panic signals assiduously generated did spread the infection in segments of the political class ,Prime minister Man Mohan Singh , remained unfazed . In response ,he asserted that Jammu and Kashmir was an integral part of India and that resolution of internal difficulties shall have to be found within the frame work of the Indian constitution . It made nonsense of the Panic brigade's raving and ranting and poured cold water on the "Quit Kashmir" protagonists. The All parties meet was fallowed by the All party delegation visit to Kashmir resulting in the appointment of non-political interlocutors , who have just completed their first visit to the state during which they interacted with different segments of the society. Their preliminary report is before Home Minister Chidambaram. Geelani had rejected the initiative and called for a boycott. The other factions, placed as they were had no option but to fallow suit. Significantly, the interlocutors have declared that they were interested in interacting only with those wanting to meet them. "we will not knock on the doors of those unwilling to meet us" said Dilip Padgaonker, the leader of the interlocutors group.
The battery of "Kashmir experts" were quick to project the Pro Pak hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani , the patron in chief of Hizb Ul Mujahideen as the" "undisputed leader" of the Kashmir Muslims and there fore the one with whom Indian state shall have to do business. . They had no time or inclination to observe the transparently vicious sadistic and brutal game plan of enticing, alluring and otherwise motivating innocent Kashmir youth to march to the security forces bunkers shouting and stoning creating an environment of intense violence which inevitably led to the use of force by the security forces under attack. The man being eulogised as the messiah was in fact using the youth as sacrificial goats to serve his and his Pakistani masters petty political interests. The Indian media persons may or may not have seen through the game but it look little time for the politically savvy and perceptive people to see through the vicious game plan. Ironically, Syed Salah ud din , the Hizab supremo was the first to raise his voice against Geelanis' mis adventure. Geelani's supporters even burnt his effigy in Sopore. The ISI bosses wasted no time in asking the UJC chief to shut up . The Council's Muzaffarabad based spokesman ,Syed Sadaqat Hussain was drafted to issue a statement on his behalf saying that "The ongoing movement is identified with Syed Ali Shah Geelani. For, the sacrifices offered by him are countless and everlasting. To cast aspersions on him is but foolishness" .Period.
By the end of August Geelanis' misadventure had caused so much of misery and distress in the socio economic life of the people that Shiekh Ghulam Hasan, the Jamaat e-Islami Amir felt compelled to publically join issues with Geelani. He pointed out that the prolonged strike had paralysed the normal life in valley and hit its economy hard . Those dependent on daily earnings to keep body and soul together were at the verge of starvation . The closure of educational institutions had deprived students , the future of Kashmir avenues of study ,upset their preparations for examinations and marred their future prospects .He asked the "leadership" to understand the broader dimensions of the prolonged strikes and Bandhs' and reminded that the struggle for Azadi was a long drawn out battle "whose result can not be seen overnight". The frustration and anger against insensitivity towards the plight of common man by Geelani and his PAK mentors was so over powering that in protest the petty shopkeepers indulged in counter stoning. The students of Gandherbal took out processions demanding opening of schools. Anti- agitation demonstration was held in Kokernag constituency represented by congress education minister Peerzada Mohd Sayed . These were unmistakable signs of the fizzling out of the grand design In fact the Geelani led fake " Intifada" never enjoyed popular sanction as made out by its mainstream fellow travellers and India baiting ultraliberals.
The disastrous course adopted by Geelani sent alarm bells ringing in the Kashmiri thinking community . In his penetrating write up "Politics of stone pelting" ( Daily Greater Kashmir Feb 14th, 2010) Dr, Wasim Ahmed dealt with the phenomenon at two levels -religious and political.
i
. "From Islamic point of view" he wrote " mourning is allowed for three days and on fourth day we are supposed to do our routine work. During the three days of mourning we are supposed to recite Fatiha and offer worship whose benefit we invoke upon the departed soul. In these three days we are supposed to give moral support to the bereaved family and help them overcome the tragedy. We are also supposed to do acts of charity and social service and the Sawaab of which is addressed to the departed soul. All this because the Holy prophet of Islam (SAWS) has advised us that the only things that are useful for a departed soul are his/her righteous deeds and the Sawaab from the righteous acts done in their name by their family"
. "Now let us all ask ourselves a question" he demanded . "In week long Hartals how many times have we recited the Fatiha for these slain people? What righteous deeds and acts of charity have we done for the benefit of their souls? On the contrary we are destroying shops and vehicles of people who had no hand in their killings. We destroy hospital vehicles and prevent sick patients from reaching hospitals ... What good will these destructive acts do to the souls of the slain people? Further, by stone-pelting do we expect the police and paramilitary forces to stop committing excesses and adopt a humane attitude towards us? Rather we actually are providing more fodder to their insatiable thirst for public massacres - more stone-pelting leading to more killings and hence a perpetual cycle of violence and killings."
Regarding the perception that "these are organized events by people seeking political mileage by cashing on our blood", he said "No matter where the incident occurs the locality, the groups involved and the stereotyped methodology used by the stone-pelters is always predictable. If this is the reality behind these "protests" to instigate a trigger happy police force for more killings and perpetual violence, then only God can save us from the hidden schemers. No matter what their intentions are, but by getting innocent people killed they can only be described as demonic. In this context the civil society should identify these groups and make sure they never succeed in their motives."
Dr Wasim goes on to conclude that "the killings we are witnessing are gruesome but "stonepelting" by no way is the right form of protest as it does no good to the souls of slain people, destroys our society, encourages more killings while allowing certain sections gain political mileage from our blood that has been rendered so cheap." Please remember that the write up was published on 14th February ,2110 long before the on set of upgraded greatly intensified and expanded June 2010 phase of the stone pelting mischief. This also made non sense of the canard that the alleged targeted killing of a teen ager by a policeman wielding a Tear Smoke Gun was the provocation. In any case .it was impossible to hit a tiny target like teen agers' head with a TS Gun shell. . A tragic incident was apparently distorted to inflame passions, which a sensation hungry section of the Indian media was quick to telecast and blindly blow out of proportion
Presently , going by the local media reports the students were trying to catch up their studies, the rural folk were busy in agricultural operations and labour and shopkeepers were trying hard to get their life back on the rails and prepare for the gruelling demands of winter . Only politically captive and paid elements were available to do Geelani's bidding. The loss of support had badly rattled the tin dictator . This was conclusively born out by , Geelani's Oct 29 call: stressing intensifying of the protest programmes in coming days.(on account of President Obamas' visit to India) "Those who show any laxity or violate the protest programmes in these days "he said " will not only commit treason with the martyrs' blood but also do an irreparable damage to the collective cause of nation" and threatened that . "the pro-freedom young generation will not tolerate such traitors and they will be dragged to the people's court for adjudiction ".. Undisputed leaders of "Intifada" command respect and willing obedience of the masses . Surely they do not have to use the language of threats and violence to those not heading the call .
It is perhaps time that the ghost of the fake "Intifada" is finally buried . The people and the government need to move on more vigorously in pursuance of goals of peace, amity and accelerated development - to improve the quality of life of our people and ensure for them a happier and brighter future. .Let us also accept the harsh reality that Conflict and strife are going to be with us for quite some time and take these in our. stride. .
