This device became a craze soon after its release across all age groups all over the world. No other electronic invention has created such fan following in so short a time. How and when did it all start?
Let's go back to the year 2000 when traditional music players were big in size and Mp3 players although liked but were not so commonly used because of the price tag and the really slow uploading of music. Tony Fadell the "father" of iPod wanted to build a better Mp3 player and found support for his project with Apple computers where he started work as an independent contractor with a team of 30 people.
October 23, 2001 the day when Apple formally release the iPod which changed the music industry forever. Although the price tag was hefty it gained immense popularity.
2001 - The first generation iPod was small in size with a 1.8 inch hard drive size compared to the competitors 2.5 inches! It also became a hit due to its ease of use provided by the mechanical scroll wheel.
2002- The mechanical wheel was changed to a touch sensitive wheel.
2003 - The third generation of the device was introduced which was much thinner than previous models. The firewall port was replaced with a dock connector. The touch wheel interface was also improved.
2004 - The fourth generation introduced a color LCD with support to various graphic formats and could be attached to an external display like a TV.
2005 -fifth generation classic or the iPod video featured a 2.5" 320*240 QVGA screen and a smaller click wheel.
2006 - The second generation of iPod Nano was introduced.
2007 - The sixth generation of iPod classic came into the market featuring a thinner body and improved battery life. The front plate was now also available in silver. Maximum capacity was 160 GB!
2008 - The iPod touch with new volume buttons and in built speakers was introduced.
2009 - iPod shuffle third and fourth generation with many modifications and iPod Nano fifth generation was launched.
