The importance of back linking

Search engines like yahoo, Google, Bing etc may have multiple parameters to judge

a website and its content but, one factor which will continue to figure in the top is number of backlinks a website has from other sites. This is one factor which will give benefits to a site till it is operational.

Your website is like your house address and the backlinks represents number of people (site) in the world having your address. This is kind of a popularity index of any website among the thousands of website present in the cyber world. The more the backlinks a site has the more number of sites acknowledge its presence and importance.

All the backlinks don't have equal value; some are valued more than others. This is purely decided by the pagerank/moz rank of the page from which the backlink comes. A link from a pagerank-5 may be much better than 25 links from pagerank-0 WebPages. It is like a person's image in society increases multi fold time if a senator or a VIP visits his house as compared to no change in his image even if 20-30 commoners visit him. So the quality is put at a high priority in judging from where the backlinks have come and not the quantity of backlinks.

Any site cannot have multiple backlinks coming from it. For e.g. a webpage with pagerank 5 can have multiple links to other sites but, most probably the first 50-60 outgoing links will be considered valuable for backlinking purposes. Most of the links after that are not given so much weight age by search engines and mostly ignored. So getting a link from an already overcrowded webpage may not make much sense.

Some of the most preferred ways of getting backlinks are by blogging, writing articles, book marking, link exchange, and directory submissions. All of these followed constructively can catapult the pagerank of the site and hence increase the visibility of the site content in the search engine results. One of the most important factor which needs to be considered while applying various backlinking techniques is to ensure that the site which you are targeting is a "Dofollow" site else all the efforts can go in vain.

Many of the blog and article sites give an option for resource box which can be wisely used to link back to your site. There are many free as well as paid directory submission sites. Higher benefit will be obtained if the directory submission is made in the sites which are related to your site. The same rule applies to your other target sites from which you intend to get back links.

The benefits obtained from good back-linking strategy are forever and hence the efforts put in it have to be continuous. One needs to continuously do blogging, article writing etc as search engines give more importance to fresh back links over old ones. Also one off backlink from a site may not help as search engine look for consistency and density and lower density of your link on any site may be ignored. Build a good link exchange strategy with sites which have similar pagerank as yours and have good potential to grow. Link exchange with lower rank sites will not help much and with higher rank sites may be expensive. But, link exchange with a site which has potential to grow will give benefits in long run.

For an e-commerce site like ours (egully.com) where there are lot of products and hence pages; it will be very difficult to optimize the site for only few key words. Instead an overall strategy to increase the pagerank of the site via backlinking will increase the overall importance of the site. This will result in high ranking of the site in search engines for a lot of keywords.

To summarize, the importance of backlinking is so high that a web based business success cannot undermine or ignore it.
