The mention of Japan fills the mind with countless images of a sci-fi country that has established itself as one of the leading players in the technology and IT-oriented environment of today, leading the world in terms of innovations at every point in time. At the same time, the country has also manage to do something not many nations can boast of, i.e., maintain its ethnicity, something that is evident via the numerous temples and shrines that are still interspersed throughout the country and are respected by one and all. However, the reason why many people wanting to go to Japan are not actually going ahead with their wish is because of a misconception that it is a very expensive place. That is hardly the case! In fact, it is much more economical than most of the countries in North America, some parts of Oceania and the Western region of Europe. Some also believe that the country is not very accessible, but the reality that seemingly eludes people is that it is one of the easiest countries to visit and get around. Also, the hospitality of the local population is a treat for tourists.

Takayama: Despite being a modern city, Takayama is an exclusive place to be with its sake breweries, old time shops and inns that manage to give one a feel of the old world Japan among all the vibrancy of the rest of the country. The morning markets are bustling with activity, while the hillside shrines and casual attitude of the residents making for an interesting concoction that leaves behind memories worth cherishing for a very unique reason that is not easy to figure out. It is a must to visit Central Honsh, and a minimum of two days are needed to soak in the ambience of the city of Takayama in the right manner. Going down the memory lane, the city was established in the late 16th century to be the castle town of the Kanamori clan. However, in 1692, it was handed over to the bakufu (shgunate) in Edo, and the current plan of the city dates back to that time. There are plenty of museums, exhibitions and galleries showcasing folk craft, architecture and lion & lion masks.

Matsuyama: The largest city of the Shikoku region and one of the busiest transport hubs of Japan, Matsuyama has all the style and elegance of its surrounding areas on Honsh, but the main attracting factor for tourists and the local population is the multitude of spectacular sights of the city. There is the Matsuyama-j, among the best feudal-era castles in the city and the Dgo Onsen Honkan, a multi-level public bath house, among others that attract thousands everyday.
