The new Motorola Flipout has a pivotal QWERTY keyboard perfect for messaging!

Motorola have released another Android device, a compact Smartphone with some unique design characteristics, the new Motorola Flipout has a 5line pivotal QWERTY keyboard which swings out from behind the 2.8 inch QVGA touch screen, so it is ideal for messaging and also works well with the web browser. The device runs the Android 2.1 operating system and benefits form an enhanced version of the MotoBlur user interface. It comes well equipped with Wi Fi connectivity, a digital camera and in-built FM Radio.

At first glance the Flipout looks adorable and very appealing; it measures at 67 x 67 x 17mm and weighs in at 120grams, it has interchangeable covers in black, blue, red, pink and orange for added personalization and it also offers dozens of pre-loaded or downloadable skins, wallpapers and screensavers. The home screen is completely customizable, you can re-size and move all of your widgets and add or remove them as you see fit, this is all part of Motorola's master plan to see that all of its customers have there own unique experiences of the handset.

The Motorola Flipout takes full advantage of the MotoBlur UI with its Messages and Happenings widgets, these two glorious little applications bring all of your e-mails, SMS messages, social network messages, feeds and status updates together and allows for a complete overview of the all. The Flipout has photo share integration with Facebook and MySpace and is capable of full e-mail synchronization for access to personal and business accounts. There is also full YouTube compatibility and the Flipout is Flash video enabled, this is thanks to its Android operating system.

The phones media player can play back a wide range of video and audio file formats and videos can be played up to 30fps. An in-built 3 mega pixel camera does a good enough job of capturing those special moments for photo sharing online. It is competent enough to shoot reasonably good video at 30fps if conditions allow, in addition there is geo tagging for image capture location, digital zoom and a variety of image editing tools for cropping and enhancing make up the rest of the cameras functions. The phone comes with a standard 2GB external memory but as usual this can be upgraded via the microSD slot, this potentially delivers enough storage space for all of your favourite images, music and video files.

Motorola's Flipout handset has good web connectivity with Wi Fi, 3G and HSDPA connections of up to 7.2 Mbps and Class12 Edge/GPRS has been thrown in for data transfer up to 2 Mbps. The Android WebKit browser functions perfectly well in makes good use of the capacitive touch screen with the addition of the pinch and zoom function which is perfect for viewing smaller text captions and zooming in on images. Bluetooth 2.1 has bee pre-installed for wireless activities such as file transfer to and from other compatible devices and using wireless headsets, as for location services the Flipout uses Google Maps with street view, Google Latitude and a built in aGPS.

To re-cap, the Motorola Flipout has a unique swing QWERTY keyboard, it is fully equipped with social networking applications and video streaming tools, it has a wonderfully receptive QVGA touch screen and it combines all of this with a rather charming and fascinating exterior. The Motorola Flipout has been focused mostly on messaging and social networking, but it does have ample entertainment features and its UI delivers a very pleasant user experience.
