Famed for the fabulous beaches, amazing weather, beach bars, clubs and holiday resorts many people don't realise the other things that the province of Malaga has to offer visitors.

Believe it or not the Malaga province has the largest number of protected areas in Andalucia.

Exploring a little deeper into rural Malaga you will come across species and plant life not seen anywhere else in the world. In fact we even have pink flamingos in their droves.

There are many national parks and sanctuaries to visit in Malaga and we could write all day about the different wildlife, trees and plants that can be found but sadly we need to summarise the information within this article.

So the best place we can recommend you start is the Sierra de las Nieves National Park. This is a hikers paradise as there are many trails and hiking routes. It is also home to the unique Spanish fir tree.

If plants and trees don't excite you then maybe some of the animals that roam the Sierra de la Nieves National park will such as the Hispanic goat. Other species that can be found include hares, rabbits, wild boars, foxes and even mongoose.

Now if you look up as opposed to scouring the ground you will see many different birds some as exotic as the Griffin vulture or the Golden eagle and other more common birds like the kestrel and the Peregine falcon.

Many holiday resorts offer organised trips to the national parks of Malaga so ask at your resort for more information. If not then there are many travel operators who speak very good English who can help you organise a trip.

These trips come highly recommended so whether you are staying up in the resort of Nerja in the east, Club la Costa near to Fuengirola or even down in Estepona to the west try and take an inland trip and see what else is on offer in the province of Malaga.
