The working of gas wall heaters

Its always good to know how your appliances at home work. A gas wall heater work via convection. This basically means that air outside of it and around it is heated. This gives out a toast-like warmth to the room. There are basically two types of gas wall heaters - vented units which are connected to a chimney or an outdoor vent and ventless units.

In a vented unit, the pipe that connects it to the outside brings in air for the unit to heat. Simultaneously it does not allow for any bad or polluted air to get into the house. In the case of ventless heaters, air surrounding it in the room is sucked into the unit and this is heated and given out.

If you have a ventless gas heater that was installed in your home before 1980, then you should consider replacing the unit. What these old units do not have is an oxygen monitor which will tell you if the rate of oxygen in the air is coming down. It is however rare to come across such an old unit in working condition, but still, it does not harm to be careful. With an oxygen sensor, gas to the unit is shut down automatically if the sensor detects a lowering in levels of oxygen. This is if the levels in the room drop down to less than 18%. This again is a precaution and very rarely happens.

There are several advantages to a gas heater. For one, it provides very even heating of your entire room. On the contrary, an electric heater just blows hot air into the room. Should you have power issues which can happen in extreme weathers, then gas heater continues to work without power as well. They are also self contained units and do not need any additional fittings in order to work well. There are a few disadvantages as well. They are not a primary source of heating and therefore cannot work the entire house at one go. It heats the room it is in and you will have to take it to the next.

Also char broil grill parts tend to give out fossil fuels which are not good in the long run. If you are going to install your heater yourself, there are chances of a gas leak happening which can be dangerous.
