Thehtc One X And The Nokia Lumia 900-a Review Of Displays
Over the past three years the Android operating system and the iOS platform used by Apple phones have enjoyed dominance in the smartphone market
. Recently we have seen a number of improvements on the Windows operating system and in 2012 the platform is hoping to provide much more of a challenge to the likes of Android and iOS. We take a look at the new Nokia Lumia 900, the flagship Windows device in the Nokia range and see how it compares with the HTC One X, the premium Android device from HTC.
There is very little to choose between these two devices in terms of design. Both models sport modern styling combined with some excellent build quality. The Nokia Lumia 900 is basically a larger version of the popular Lumia 800 device that was launched earlier in the year. The handset sports a very angular design that is in stark contrast to many of the more rounded devices that are currently available. The chassis of the phone is made from a single piece of polycarbonate which is very tough and also very light which helps the handset weigh in at a very impressive 160 grammes. The model has been released in a selection of different colours to help give consumers a little more choice over the appearance of their phone. The HTC One X boasts a totally different type of styling from the One X but one that is equally as appealing. The model features more curves than the Nokia but the handset also uses a uni body shell which feels incredibly well made. This shell offers a textured finish which helps to make the phone feel very comfortable in the palm of your hand. The overall dimensions of the phone are 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9mm and the model weighs even less than the Lumia at just 130 grammes. Despite their different designs both models offer very modern looks that are sure to appeal to consumers everywhere.
Being the two flagship devices in their respective ranges both models feature the very latest in screen technology although the HTC One X impresses us slightly more in this department. The models uses a very large 4.7 inch display which runs on the very latest Super IPS LCD2 technology which produces vivid colours and excellent viewing angles. In terms of resolution the One X can display 1280 x 720 pixels which results in a fantastic pixel density of 312PPI. The multi touch screen is constructed from Gorilla Glass which is much stronger than traditional glass panels which helps it to keep in better condition for longer. The Nokia Lumia 900 uses a smaller screen which utilises Super AMOLED technology. This type of display is regarded by many people as being the best type of screen on the market but the Nokia loses ground on the HTC by offering a lower resolution. The handset can display 800 x 480 which results in a much lower pixel density of 217 pixels per inch. There is no doubt that this display works well but when compared to the One X the HTC device definitely holds the upper hand for screen performance.
The HTC One X and the Nokia Lumia 900 are both super handsets that run on impressive operating systems. Both models are very pleasing on the eye and boast great screen technology but the HTC model eclipses its rival when it comes to display quality.
