There Are Already A Variety of Options When it Comes to Internet service without phone lines
As cell phone technology has spread and consumers look for ways to save money
, many are taking a hard look at how they communicate. Many families find that their old standby landline just isn't necessary any more. Everyone has their own cell phone and rarely does the traditional phone ring. But what if you still get your Internet via a phone line? Can you do away with your phone line and still get Internet? The answer is yes, you can get Internet service without phone line.
One of the most popular methods of getting Internet service without phone lines is via cable modem. If you subscribe to a provider such as Comcast or Time Warner then you are probably acquainted with this method. High speed broadband access is brought to your home via cable modem. Not only can you get the Internet this way but you can use the technology for telephone service as well. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) allows you to use your cable modem to talk on a standard handset.
If you are not a traditional cable subscriber but you use a satellite provider such as Dish Network or DirectTV, you can get your Internet using these services. This works in much the same way as cable and allows you to access the Internet without having a phone line. You can take advantage of VoIP with these services as well.
One option that is becoming an increasingly more common option for Internet service without phone lines is DSL. DSL, or Digital Subscriber Line, is not new. The major carriers have been providing Internet via DSL for quite some time. In the past, however, DSL users were required to maintain a regular phone line as well as a DSL line. Today it is possible to get DSL without having a phone line. Not only do the traditional providers such as AT&T offer this but we find third party carriers such as Windstream and others offering the services.
With DSL where there is Internet service without phone line (also called a dry loop) you still have a DSL line coming into your home or wherever you are receiving Internet services but you do not get a traditional line with a dial tone. The line is for Internet only. This line will be installed by the provider.
Another option for Internet service without phone lines is Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is simply wireless Internet. If you live in a city that has free coverage or near a business that doesn't mind you sharing then you are very lucky. Some neighbors are now doubling up and sharing Internet via a router in order to save money. The trick here is that you need to have a wireless hub within range that you can piggy back off of.
Regardless of what method you choose to get s, you need to do some shopping around in order to get the best price. Beware of introductory pricing since prices will skyrocket once you are past the designated period. With a little research and some price comparisons you can find what you need for an affordable price. You can also be sure that as time goes on there will be more options to choose from.
