There Is Help For Excessive Sweating

When it heats up outside so does your body temperature

. This means it's time to make sure you have really lathered on or sprayed on the antiperspirant. You sure wouldn't want to be sweaty in front of everyone. Whereas, an antiperspirant - deodorant might work for most, there are some exceptions to the rule when it comes to sweating. There are an unfortunate few who suffer from a condition known as Primary Focal Hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhydrosis affects up to 3 out of every 100 people in the United States. It is a medical condition that is characterized by abnormally increased perspiration. It causes people to sweat excessively more than what is required to regulate normal body temperature.

The primary cause of hyperhidrosis is not known, although it has been established that anxiety can exacerbate the situation. Other factors that may play a role or trigger an affect are caffeine, nicotine, certain foods and drinks and even certain smells.

There are various treatments for hyperhidrosis which include:

* Special deodorants with high concentrations of aluminum chloride

* Antidepressants

* Antichloinergic drugs

* ETS - endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy - an extensive surgical procedure

With all of the above mentioned treatments comes a long list of side affects ranging from simple, moderate to severe. The deodorants can be irritating and may not work at all. The oral medications can cause drowsiness, dryness of the mouth and eyes as well as mood swings. And as with any surgery there are risks as well.

However, there is another treatment that has proven to be highly effective and way less evasive than surgery. The treatment of choice for hyperhidrosis is Botox therapy. That's right, that wrinkle erasing, and age defying little wonder drug called Botox can not only help people look younger, but help them get a handle on excess sweating as well.

Botox injections work by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Once the signals are blocked, the excessive sweating stops. Because of its effectiveness, Botox therapy remains the treatment of choice by many dermatologists for helping with hyperhidrosis.

If you have been suffering from this condition, there is help. Seek out a dermatologist and find out if Botox would be the right choice for you.
