There is so much to do in the garden during this month of April

, but before you start gardening, just take a step back for a moment and enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature, then put on a happy face, the gardening gloves and head out to make your dream garden a reality.

We are told so many times that gardening is good for us, but when you really start the countless jobs this month dont overdo it, start out slowly, it could be some time since you gave those muscles and bones a good workout.

There is still time to plant trees and shrubs, but must be done now, as a bit further in the month will be a little too late, April and May is a good time for pruning evergreens, the Juniper, Cypress or other conifers that need pruning this is also a good time.

April is the best time for planting summer flowering bulbs such as Dahlias, Gladiolas and Lilies, but remember the Tuberous Begonia should not be put outdoors until all danger of frost has passed, so may be better to wait until May.

There is nothing more lovely than hanging plant baskets with bright flowers cascading over their sides are a great summer decoration for a porch, gazebo or in the house, and the Tuberous Begonia is perfect for a hanging basket, and is ideal for indoor and outdoor plants that will last through each season. Their large blossoms range from white to pink with red markings, yellow, orange and red and the begonia leaves on vines can grow up to 3 feet long and make a wonderful show as they cascade over the hanging basket.

Another plant that can easily been grown in a basket is the Ivy geranium the five-petal flowers are white with lavender markings, deep pink, purple, white, red, salmon, purple and burgundy. The newer plants may have semi-double and double blossoms for a more showy appearance. Geraniums of course look spectacular in containers and pots as well and give an eye catching display in any garden.

Gardeners the world over each and every year try different plants to strive for the perfect garden, trying to plant unusual combinations of different species and colours to give that special display. There will always be the all time favourites such as roses, chrysanthemums, and somewhere in an English garden you will find lavender shrubs, these plants stand sedately in an area of a garden and give off a lovely scent, not to mention the usefulness of the flowers when dried to use in-between stored bed linen and underwear.
