There's No Excuse For Dial-up With Satellite Internet

By modern standards, dial-up is really an ancient technology

. Advancements in computing come at a rapid pace and equipment that was good a few years ago is probably obsolete by now. By and large, internet connectivity is no different. The only difference is that you can still sign up for dial-up whereas you can't purchase other computing equipment that's just as old. For example, around the time dial-up came out, digital storage maxed out at around 1 gigabyte, but you just can't buy hard-drives that small anymore. In any case, there's really no excuse for continuing to stick with dial-up when satellite internet is a viable option.

There are probably a couple of reasons why you continue to stick with dial-up. After all, there has got to be a method to your madness, so to speak. Most people have dial-up because they feel that they have no other option. Perhaps you live in a more remote area and thus wired broadband connectivity is not available. Cable and DSL require that potential subscribers be located close to their respective infrastructures, which means a lot of people out there simply can't sign up for them. Fortunately, you can sign up for satellite internet no matter where you live. You won't have to worry about being located close to its infrastructure because it's a wireless technology. The only thing you have to do is make sure you have an unobstructed view of the sky, which really isn't much of a requirement. You don't have to continue thinking you have no other option because you actually do.

Another reason why you might be sticking with dial-up is that it's the cheapest connection that you can buy. Although it's true that nothing is cheaper, it's not as cheap as you might think. Most people only consider what they pay per month, but they also have to factor in the cost of a phone line, which can easily double the overall cost of dial-up. It may be tempting to think that you'd have a phone line anyway even if you didn't use dial-up, but would you? Most people use their cell phones almost exclusively and if you upgrade to satellite internet you can also use voice over IP services like Skype or Google Voice. That phone line really ends up being an additional cost that brings the price of dial-up close to what broadband costs.

The only reason why dial-up is still around is because not enough people know about satellite internet. It's available anywhere and you wouldn't have to pay for any additional services to use it. If you cancel your phone line after you sign up, you won't be paying that much more for internet too, though you'd be getting a lot more. Put simply, satellite service leaves dial-up in the dust. As an example, a music file would take 5 to 10 minutes to download with dial-up but it would only take about 30 seconds with satellite internet. Once you cancel your dial-up service and make the switch, you'll probably ask yourself why you didn't do that sooner.
