They Can Really Play The Guitar In Las Vegas!

Another long distance journey on the road back to play guitar.

Wow, we are just back from a trip to Las Vegas. Not the sort of place I thought a home town Kiwi would ever go to, but what an amazing place to visit. We spent a week in an incredible hotel and the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights we went along and caught the Lon Bronson band. There were eight or nine of them on stage each night and the lead guitarist was awesome.

Man could he play the guitar.

The bass player and rhythm guitarist were also fantastic. The whole Band was fantastic, each night there were 3 or 4 guys on trumpets and sax and the singers were powerful to boot. We thoroughly enjoyed their music each night and it was a really cool way to end our full on days.

We were there for a conference, so the days were long and the unwinding at the end of the day was just what we needed.

The lead guitarist could really play guitar, obviously a seasoned pro who earned a living from his trade. I've just been looking at their website to try and find his name but don't recognise him as the guitarist we saw. Sorry, can't even tell you his name!

Ah well, I can tell you he sure could play guitar.

So things I have learned about the guitar since coming home to Whangaparaoa, New Zealand.

1) I still have not opened the case to my guitar

2) I do love to listen and watch guys (or gals) who can play the guitar, because they make it look so easy,

3) My Dave Dobbyn song book is still unopened,

4) Procrastination is a marvellous thing

On a scale of one to ten, for travel destinations, I would probably rate Las Vegas about a 7. The people we met were awsome and each had a different background. We even ran into an older Kiwi couple from the lower North Island of NZ who had moved over to Las Vegas because their sons and their families had both moved to the USA and were doing very nicely for themselves. These two were in their 60's and loving the lifestyle of Las Vegas, but had to move home to New Zealand again due to tax and pension issues .

Neither of them could play guitar, however.

On our last day before we flew out, we spent a couple of hours on one of the open top double decker buses taking in the sights and history of "the strip". Now that is an amazing place! Many of the larger hotels have taken on a theme and just gone for it in reproducing that theme. To name just a few, there was the Eifel tower, New York complete with Statue of Liberty, the Spynx and a couple of Egyptian pyramids. Then there was Treasure Island and a huge Disneyland style castle and of course the Hard Rock cafe is there with a huge guitar probably as tall as a seven story building.

Well my guitar playing has still not improved, I am still on the hunt for the time and not sure what else to get back into it. So the eternal journey continues with its final destination and prize to be able to play the guitar once again.
