Things That Must Not Be Done Given A Disruptive Behavior
For teachers, disruptive behavior in class always is considered a problem
. Therefore, as class managers and leaders, we should discipline students and give warnings. This in turn gives us hope that these students will not redo the actions not maybe in an instant but soon enough.
Teachers often have this disparity in the role they should take in terms of disciplining students. Some students do these disruptive behaviors because basically they don't give respect and they no longer fear their teachers. Oftentimes, a teacher who disciplines the said students ends up being called by the principal alongside with the parents of the child involved. As teachers we sometimes do not know what to do. So, here are some things you should do given a disruptive behavior occurs within the classroom.
1. Do not scold the students involved in the classroom. Students also have feelings thus they get ashamed. When they are being noisy, do not ever call their names out loud. This is a way to feed them the idea that you had acknowledged the behavior. In turn, they might be embarrassed by their classmates and might end up doing the action over again. Students are often trying the patience of their teachers. If you feel the need to tell them what they did was wrong, do so in a personal manner with no one else around but you and the student.
2. Do not let the any disruptive behavior pass. The first offense is the most critical turning point in your discipline methodology. Thus, if a student misbehaved in class for the first time, do not let this pass. Talk to him personally and identify what he or she had done wrong. Do not let one error left unnoticed. If you do, students will simply think that you can welcome such behavior in your classroom. Thus with this, they might do the disruptive behavior again.
3. Never run out of patience. This could be very difficult to do, but as a teacher, patience is always a virtue and must always be present. To the extent possible, contain all the anger and stress when you discipline a student or group of students. For one thing, when you lose that value it can trigger anger and rage. This in turn can lead to yelling and saying bad words to them. For sure this can be reported by the students and might be used against you. Therefore, you need to be very careful. Maintain a peaceful mind every day and transition into something calm when a bad situation arises. Do not succumb to anger. Lengthening our patience takes time to inculcate it within ourselves but it is the only way for us to never lose our cool.
As a teacher your job is not just to tell the usual lessons everyday. There are still deep tasks and responsibilities to do. So, take this as a guide if something bad or worst happen within your classroom. Disruptive behavior is not that really hard to deal, it is a matter of how you professionally accept and battle it.
