Things To Avoid During A Garage Sale

Having a garage sale before you move is an excellent idea because you get to kill

two birds with one stone get rid of the clutter in your home and earn some extra cash. But even though the idea sounds simple, executing it is another matter altogether. It often happens that an elaborately organized garage sale falls flat on its face!

Check out these common mistakes made during a garage sale so you can avoid them:

Signs That Aren't Effective

It is essential you put up an informative sign to bring traffic to the sale. Signs that confuse people or are too small will simply be ignored. Your sign should have a big arrow pointing in the correct direction. You can use neon poster boards such as green, orange, or pink as they are visible from a long distance too.

Over Pricing

If you keep the price margin too high, then people might just walk out. Remember, no matter how much you value your stuff, the pricing needs to be done in a way that attracts customers. Your objective should be to sell your stuff before the end of the day so price items reasonably.

Items Not Priced

All items need to be priced. Customers will find it inconvenient to ask the price for every item they pick up and you will find it frustrating as well. Buy a package of pre-priced stickers and complete the pricing the night before the sale.

Bad Presentation

You can't put out boxes filled with random stuff and expect customers to buy it. Do you think they will dig through piles of stuff to find the item of their choice? Items should be put on display on tables or on top of boxes so that they are visible.

Not Prepared

It is necessary to be prepared in advance. Keep plenty of change handy and visit the bank before the sale to get a roll of every type of coins you might need. Running out of change at a garage sale is a strict no-no.

Dirty Items

Customers are more likely to buy items if they are neat and clean rather than dirty or dusty. In fact, you can get a higher price for certain items too if they are clean.

Not Greeting Customers

Treat the sale as something happening in a shop. Don't just sit in a chair and be aloof from the crowd. Greet customers politely and warmly and tell them to come to you with any questions. They will stay longer and might purchase quite a few items.

Looking for movers to help you move? Don't worry, all you have to do is go online and search for services in the city you are moving to. For example, Lansing movers or Lafayette moving companies will ideally serve your purpose.
