Things To Bear In Mind When Renting A Storage Area
The spiralling costs of real estate and a return to the minimalism school of interior
design have both proved to be contributing factors behind the growing demand for storing solutions from home and office owners alike. Even people who live in rental homes and consequently keep moving from one place to another tend to make use of these services. Most storage facilities allow a wide range of articles to be kept on premises. However, there still are a few things that one must careful while moving or storing and some might be unsuitable for both even.
Generally speaking, such articles can be clubbed under three broad categories, viz.
Volatile Ones: Technically speaking anything that is inflammable can also be termed as being volatile. But the strength of this characteristic varies in intensity from material to material; some like alcohol and fuel for example are quite volatile, others less so. Included in the volatile materials list are acids, batteries, fireworks, explosives, paints, chemicals, photography fluids, etc.
Perishables: Perishable items are usually organic in nature. Storage area providers usually do not allow customers to keep plants and animals on their premises. Similarly, the storage of food grains and other edible items, whether in raw form or that which has been processed in any way, is also restricted/ prohibited. Even when moving from one place to another, storage companies tend to have stringent guidelines on the category of items that they will transport and the ones that they will not be in a position to handle. If under special circumstances, the moving solutions provider does indeed provide such services, then it would be wise to inform them well in advance about the same. Needless to say, this and all other communication must be in written form. It helps in the maintaining of records at both, the client as well as the customers end, should a dispute arise at a later stage.
The Fragile Ones: When one uses the terms fragile to categorize items, the first image that comes to most peoples mind is glass or glass based articles. However, in this day and age, there are others that may be ubiquitous in their use, but they are just as fragile and sensitive as their molten-sand based counterparts. These include items like computers & other computing devices, musical instruments and assorted accessories, etc. This is why, when storing such items, it should be done with utmost care. Most electronic items and musical instruments are highly sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. While the former can alter the tonality and performance of musical equipment, the latter can wreak havoc on delicate electronic circuitry.
Besides the ones discussed above, there could be many other restrictions and these vary across storing solutions providers. It therefore is a good practice to check with the storage provider in question for a detailed list on the same.
