Things To Consider Before Buying A Home Audio System

The days of easily choosing an audio system are long gone

. You used to be able to walk into a stereo store and listen to a few different systems, pick some speakers, take everything home, hook it up, and start enjoying it. Today though, the audio market has gotten incredibly sophisticated. We are no longer looking at simple standalone stereos. Instead, we're looking at fully integrated home entertainment systems.

There are millions of Americans that have several home computers networked together, but the real fun happens when all the home entertainment devices are connected into a system that allows you to enjoy video and audio throughout you're the home.

Although this article deals specifically with the issues you need to take into consideration when making an investment in a home audio system the basic principles apply to video as well. These are the main considerations you need to take into account:

1) What do you want from a system? Start out with having no restrictions. My dream home audio system looks like this:

I expect to be able to put all of my MP3 files, records, and CDs on a single device. I expect to be able to immediately pull up the music I want even I don't remember the name of the album. I want to select my music by the mood I'm currently in or the mood I'm trying to achieve. I want the music to follow me throughout the house. If the rest of my family is in the house I want each person to be able to choose what they want to hear and where they want to hear it.

2) Take a minute to think about your home's infrastructure. Is the house wired for whole house audio? Are you doing a major remodel and want to include the necessary wiring?

3) Wireless might be an option.

4) Will it adapt to equipment I have?

Sounds like an impossible dream doesn't it? Well it isn't anymore! There a lot of choices on the market at different price points with different features. While the choices can be confusing they really boil down into two categories:

Some do it yourself solutions. These solutions vary but tend to be much lower priced however the work begins when you bring your new purchase home. Many of these products have fairly complicated set up requirements such as external computers, an understanding of how to set up the device on your network, complicated setup to name a few.

If you already know how to do the things, you shouldn't have any problems with the set up. However, if you don't have the expertise, the experience will be similar to buying a car and going home with a box of tools and a box of parts. While you might be able to put it all together at the end of the day, this wouldn't be the option to choose if wanted to buy a car that could be driven off the lot.
