Things To Consider Before Cleaning Your Cartridge Pool Filter
Swimming pools can be a source of great fun and entertainment for your family and friends especially during summers
. In fact, a dip in the cool and clear water of the pool could be quite refreshing. However, the most frustrating area with their pools is their cleaning. In spite of spending thousands of dollars into their pool, pool owners consider pool maintenance a burden.
Although, traditional filters have been around the corner for quite a while and have indeed done a good job in pool filtration and maintenance, cartridge pool filters have revolutionized the entire concept of pool filtration. These types of filters are designed in a way to keep the pool and spa waters clean for health and safety reasons. These filters are perfect for both above ground as well as in ground pool filters.
These filters function at low pressure. So, when the filtering element of the filter begins to accumulate dirt and debris after being used for a certain period of time, it becomes more difficult for the swimming pool pump to circulate water through the filter. Consequently, the pressure mounts up on your filter system and less water is circulated. This increases the pressure on your pump and also decreases the amount of water that is filtered leaving more dirt and debris in your pool.
But how often a pool filter cartridge needs to be changed is partially based on how much work it does. A filter that is relatively larger than the pool it is attached will not have to be maintained as often. So buying a small filter is usually a penny-wise pound-foolish option.
In order to understand the effectiveness of your filter, it is important for you to note down the pressure reading of your newly installed filter cartridge. Consider this as the baseline reading. With time, as the cartridge element begins to accumulate dirt and debris, pressure starts mounting up. When the swimming pool pump indicates a pressure of about 8-10psi (8-10 pounds per square inch) it is a clear indication that your filter either requires cleaning or replacement.
While cleaning the filter could be tiring and time consuming, replacement of the cartridge element could be a better option due to the low cost of cartridges and easy installation process. However, if you have decided to clean your filter manually, make sure you do not use too much pressure while using the garden hose as this may further push the debris into the cartridge.
By ensuring proper cleaning and maintenance of your pool filter cartridges, you can extend the life of your filter, swimming pool pump while ensuring pool water clarity and hygiene.
