Things To Do In Kata Beach, Thailand

Thailand has become a top tourist destination not only because of its pristine beaches

but also due to its rich cultural and architectural heritage and its natural wonders. Top that with the warm reception that the Thais afford tourists and you will understand why tourists keep coming back with some even refusing to go back home. The Land of Smiles beckons.

Kata Beach is one of the top spots to be when in Thailand. It is just a few minutes from Karon Beach and has become more popular as a family destination because of its great palm-lined beaches, local and international restaurants and its pleasantly lively nightlife far from the raucous and rumbustious Patong night life. Accommodations vary from cheap lodgings to first class accommodations.

Thailand is a great travel destination the whole year through. Surfers from all over the world find time to troop to Kata from May to October to ride the crests in Kata Beach. Kata Noi waves are fast and furious while the bigger waves are at Kata Yai which surfer dudes consider the best waves in Phuket. Since the Phuket Surfing Contest happens late August to early September each year, the beach may be a little crowded but still quite surfable.

November to April is when the beach is calm and quiet and at some point teeming with sun-seekers. It is frigid in the temperate zone this time of the year and the warm tepid blue water of the Andaman Sea is sometimes too much too resist. This time of the year is the best time to indulge in scuba diving and snorkeling.

The best site for snorkelers is the northern end of Kata beach, which has coral and magnificent sea life. If one is into scuba diving, there are two very popular dive sites near the beach.

Jet-skiing is also a fun water activity in Kata. A jet-skier is required to have a second class Helmans license but checking for such is a rarity. However, donning life vests is a must. Nothing to worry in the Andaman Sea though as the local coast guard and authorities have made provisions on early warning devices as prompt to potential off shore disturbances.

Elephant trekking is an once-in-a-lifetime experience that should not be missed. The trek is near the Chalong Hills where aside from the trek, guests are treated to an elephant show at the top of the hill.

After a grueling but fun-filled day of water sports and trekking, what better way to calm and relax oneself by experiencing the famous Thai massage? The experience is not a matter of massaging per se but a more holistic massage treatment or therapy.
