Things To Make Your Resume Stand Out And Get You Noticed
The unemployment rate in this country is higher than it's been in a long time
. And what's worse, is that many economists believe that it's understated, because it doesn't count how many people have simply stopped looking for work. This makes looking for a job a lot harder than it used to be. For every job you see advertised in the paper or online, there are literally thousands of people who apply for that particular job. This can be very disheartening if you don't have much experience, or haven't been in the job market for a long time. In order to even get an interview, you've got to get your resume noticed out of all the other ones. In this article, you are going to learn some unique tips on how to do that.
First of all, imagine that you are a hiring manager. You only have time to interview ten people for a job. But you have five hundred resumes. That means for every fifty resumes, you've got to pick one person. How in the world would you do that? To make things worse, you've only got about two or three hours to look through all those resumes. Thinking in terms of this will help.
The first thing is to give your resume a snappy title. Sure, put your name on top, but consider putting something underneath your name to make it stand out. Most people put their name, and then a short blurb that describes the kind of work they are looking for. But consider putting some kind of quote, or some crazy statement that will make the employer sit up and take notice. Of course, the rest of your resume should contain the appropriate information, but having a headline will give you a fighting chance.
Another thing that can help is to have a couple videos up on YouTube. Put on your suit and tie, and spend a couple minutes explaining what a great person you are, and why you'd be the ideal candidate. Then put a link to your video under your name. Most people don't do this, so if the employer takes the time to watch your video, you've got a great chance.
Embed a picture in your resume. The law is fuzzy about asking for pictures, so generally speaking, employers don't ask for them. But when you have a nice picture of your smiling face on your resume, it will make it stand out. Especially if you are particularly photogenic.
Make your description sound incredibly mesmerizing. Generally speaking, when people write their description, they put in a couple of lines about looking for this kind of work, or having this kind of experience. But spice it up a little bit. Use power words like incredible, amazing, spectacular, and mind boggling. This will make you sound so much better than everybody else.
When you apply some or all of these tips, you'll have a much higher chance of getting noticed and getting called into an interview. Of course, once you get that far, you're on your own. Good luck.
