The procedure is performed by a reputable plastic surgeon on an outpatient basis (which means an overnight hospital stay is usually not required). The patient is sedated with the appropriate anesthetic during the entire process, which takes from one to three hours. The procedure involves altering the bone and cartilage in order to sculpt the desired effect.

Unfortunately, approximately ten to twenty percent of rhinoplasty patients do not end up being happy with their result. This can happen for a variety of reasons. For one thing, plastic surgeons sometimes take a minimalist approach by reducing the size of the nose to an appropriate but conservative degree. At times, the bridge or length of the nose may be altered but the nostrils may not.

Make sure these are pictures of results of procedures performed by your prospective surgeon. This will be a good way to communicate exactly what you are hoping for in terms of outcome and for the physician to let you know if your expectations are realistic.

If your nose job is relatively recent, it would be a good idea to give it a bit more time to heal and in order for your view of yourself to adjust. It can take up to a year or two for the swelling to recede and for the resettling of the bone structure in order to accurately see the end result.

Plus, just as a person who's recently lost a great deal of weight may still perceive themselves as fat, a person with a nose recently altered may need a bit more time to accept the new person looking back at them from the mirror.
