Things You Didnt Know About Your Bed Frame
How much did you spend on your last mattress? Chances are its anywhere from one to three thousand dollars
. Wow - thats a lot of money! But why do we spend so much on those spongy things that just sit there? We do it because we understand the value of a good nights sleep. In fact, we want a good nights sleep so bad that we are willing to do just about anything to get it. Thats because:
1. A good nights sleep can keep you healthy.
2. Solid sleep will make you feel better physically.
3. Not sleeping well often leads to back pain and other problems.
4. Sleeping well puts us in better moods.
5. A great nights sleep will make us perform better at work.
And while all those things are true, heres what you and many others do not often realize: your mattress is only a single part of the sleep equation. See, you also have to consider the bed you place your mattress on.
The fact is, your bed frame can be the determining factor on what happens when you go into your bedroom. Why dont we take a closer look at why
Does Your Mattress Get Enough Support?
A mattress is only as good as its support system. In other words, if you dont have something to keep your mattress nice and flat, it wont do its job properly. So people like you go out and spend a fortune on their mattress, but end up neglecting what it sits on.
So what provides that support for your mattress? Your first answer is probably the foundation or box spring. And if thats what you said, then you are only partially right. Yes, you need a good box spring, but theres even more to it than that. You need to make sure that your bed frame is equipped with the proper slats to support your mattress and box spring. That means they are:
* Composed of high quality materials - If you use particle board or some other weak wood as your slats, then you can count on them bowing and misshaping. The result will be a sagging mattress that not only sleeps poorly but doesnt last as long as it should. Instead, opt for slats made out of hardwoods that will stand up to the stress of all that weight and keep their shape.
* Numerous enough so that the gaps are not too wide - Having tough wooden slats will do you little good if you dont have enough of them. See, if you try to get away with too few of slats, what happens is your mattress and foundation may end up slipping into the unsupported crevices. The result? Uneven support for your back and terrible sleep.
Memory foam mattresses offer a perfect example. Did you know that many memory foam mattresses come with a warranty of up to 20 years? And did you realize that having an improper support system for the mattress may void this warranty? Why? Because manufacturers realize that improper composition of slats will not allow your mattress to do its job right.
So whats the moral here? Spend time and money on the composition of your bedframe. Buy plenty of slats and make sure they are made of high quality hardwood.
