Things to Do in Mendoza
The city of Mendoza is a beautiful place to visit and stay. With lovely parks and great lodgings, like the Diplomatic Hotel, this urban center has become an important tourist point in South America. Nevertheless, there are several amazing sites to visit, only a few kilometers away from the capital.
During the entire year, the most traditional trip involves going from Mendoza to the Chilean border, via excellent paved roads with services placed for the tourists open beside the way along the Rio Mendoza. Nevertheless, the Villavicencio path and its unique pattern can reach the maximum height of the Precordillera at 3000 meters on the Cross of Paramillo, keeping off more than 365 curves from the hotel to the Cross.
Also, visitants have the opportunity to enjoy a spectacular scene of the Andes. After a fast decline, we can rapidly arrive at Uspallata Valley, located 100 kilometers away from the capital city. Uspallata hosted the Huarpes, an indigenous community in pre-Hispanic times. The urban area of this vast valley provides varied cuisine and comfortable accommodation. Not too far away we can get to the Vaults (Las Bvedas), historic adobe constructions very well maintained, in which Fray Luis Beltrn, chaplain of the Andes Army under the command of General Jos de San Martn, forged the cannons and guns to fight for Chile's independence. The tour continues with a visit to the villages of Picheuta, Polvaredas and Punta de Vacas, where we can access to the famous town of Los Penitentes.
Just 167 kilometers away from Mendoza city we can get to one of the ski resorts in Cuyo region, which runs from June to August and is a good place for adventure tourism during the rest of the year. Thanks to the service of a chairlift is possible to have a privileged view of the area.
Later, in Puente del Inca (Inca's Bridge) at 2,720 meters above sea level, Las Cuevas River has carved the mountain forming a natural bridge to emerge as hot springs. Nearby lays the Cemetery of the Climbers. We can walk a short distance from the border to access to a magnificent viewpoint to appreciate the splendor of Mount Aconcagua. An unpaved road that goes from the international route, takes us a few miles near the beautiful Horcones Lagoon and the Aconcagua Provincial Park.
Finally, we can go back to the Diplomatic Hotel in Mendoza City following the same route we took to come.
