Things to do at The Shore

With summer officially ending at the end of September

, there are still a few weekends left to get the most out of the Jersey shore. The shore provides something for every member of the family so here are a few tips to make the most out of a day trip to New Jersey's playground!

Plan Ahead

Whether you are planning on spending a day at the beach or strolling the boardwalk, it's always a good idea to plan your trip ahead of time. Always check the weather before hopping in the car. Just because it's sunny where you are, doesn't mean that the beach is the same. It's no fun being freezing on the beach.

A History Lesson

While many people take to the Jersey Shore for their beautiful beaches, some people go for the number of historical activities that the shore offers. Monmouth County features the Twin Light Historic State Park, home to the Navesink Light Station. These twin beacon lighthouses mark the western entrance into the New York Harbor. They began operating in 1828 until they were decommissioned in 1949. Although no longer used for navigation, its beacons are still shining.

View From the Top

Another alternative to spending your whole day at the beach is to check out the view from above. The Mount Mitchell Scenic Overlook. At 266 feet above sea level, it is the highest point on the entire Atlantic seaboard with scenic views of Sandy Hook, Raritan Bay and the New York skyline. Pack a picnic before leaving your apartment!

Just For Kids

If you are looking for an activity for the kids, the shore has no shortage of games and entertainment, guaranteed to please. The Keansburg Amusement Park and Runaway Rapids features a state-of-the-art water park with unique rides and arcades. It also features a 2500 foot fishing pier and free beach access.

Hit the Beach!

Of course, no trip to the Jersey Shore, day or longer is complete without dipping a toe in the Atlantic. With miles and miles of beaches to choose from, each community provides the perfect backdrop for whatever kind of day you desire. Just don't forget the sunscreen!
