There are rules in some of the article directories that prevent you from directly linking to your affiliate sites. They give you a way around it, though. You can get a domain name, which can cost as little as two dollars the first year, and then redirect it to go to your affiliate page. In this instance, the links you want to build are to your article, in your effort to get on the first SERP for the keyword that you created the article around.

If you do have your own website, then you will put your focus on building links, so that the website gets on the first search results page, ideally for multiple search terms. Yes, you should have quality content, but if you had a page with lesser quality content and many outside links, versus a page with impeccable content and no links coming in, guess which page is almost always going to win? (The one with the links.)

This process absolutely works. There are no maybes involved. The only question is how long it takes to manually build the hundreds or even thousands of links that sometimes are needed. You put yourself at a distinct disadvantage if you refuse to purchase a proven link building software product that helps you to automate your efforts. Everyone who uses this software has a tremendous advantage over you, because they can do in a day, what may take you months to do. It is as if you are walking across the country and they are driving.
