This Thing Called Covert Hypnosis
Hypnosis has forever been considered as something mystical
. It's been featured in lots of radio shows, books, and television shows. It has also been used in night club acts, where volunteers can be persuaded to do some things that they maybe wouldn't otherwise do in a public setting. But, it appears that there's some scientific evidence to support it. Also, psychologists have tried it with some patients. "Covert Hypnosis" is another type, of which you may not have heard.
So, exactly what is this? Well, let's pretend that you're working in the sales department, and that you're conversing with a potential client. Of course, you're actually doing much more than simply talking. You're also gesturing, selecting your words in a careful manner, and changing facial expressions at carefully chosen times. You're doing this to try to connect to the person's subconscious mind, to try to have some influence over his behavior.
For example, by phrasing things in a carefully crafted manner, you can convey to your subject about the good feeling he could get if he were to buy one of your products. (This good feeling could even make the subject forget that he can't afford it.) A strategically-timed frown could suggest that the person could be committing an error by not purchasing what you have to offer. Making a simple gesture of the hand could express some sense of urgency.
The main key, is that your subject hasn't realized what's happening. For this reason, it's called, "Covert". (There are some wags who call it "Sleight of Mouth".)
You may say, that you've never been trained to use these types of mystic arts. But, maybe you have been without realizing it. Sales, after all, is nothing more than trying to influence behavior.
The first step for this technique, is to establish a rapport with the subject. With your friends or coworkers, that's already done. With strangers, you could begin by laughing at their jokes, or paying them some sort of a compliment.
Then, you'll need to bypass the subject's critical mind. Present him with a "What if" type of scenario. It needs to be done in a way that would convey some benefit to the subject. For example, what if buying your product could improve his well-being?
By doing a quick web search, you'll come up with tons of information about this technique. Many of the links will be to the websites of product vendors, selling courses to teach how it's done. Other sites are more general, and provide articles and product reviews about the courses. (You may see some professional review sites, who get paid by product vendors to review their products. But, a disclosure statement should be posted on the site's home page.)
According to these websites, there are more uses for this technique than for just making sales. Adherents claim that it can be used to help break drug addictions, or to improve relationships. Some sites have posted videos of politicians who seem to be using the technique on their audiences.
In general, covert hypnosis courses come with audio tapes or CDs, printed manuals, and exercise books. Vendors claim that their products are safe to use, and that the technique is easy to learn. They also caution to only use it for legal and ethical purposes.
