Those Who Are Not College Graduates Can Still Make A Living
As high school draws to an end, kids make plans to attend college
. Some go to two year schools and others head to four year universities. There are a few that take time off, opt for a vocational school, or pass up higher education all together. In most cases though, this is a small minority and they are often passed over in school and during the graduation celebration. There is a misconception that the dumb kids are the ones that do not go on to college and the kids who are going to be successful head right to a campus for four more years in the classroom. The truth is, many successful adults did not attend traditional four year schools. A lot of kids go to college with little idea of which field they want to eventually work. They are going based on the recommendations of their teachers and parents. They may have dreams of working in a field that does not require a college education, but they have been told their entire lives they need to get a college degree. Consider kids who have dreams of working in law enforcement. These professionals may benefit from a college education, but more than likely they are going to learn the most from hands on work and dealing with situations that require them to do more than open a text book. A security certification or security training is going to help a kid with law enforcement dreams while also saving them money.
When kids are being encouraged to attend college, few people ask them what their dreams are. They just assume traditional college is going to be the best option instead of taking into account what education will benefit the kid.
If a high school senior wants to be a baker or a chef, attending a traditional four year college is going to take them years they could otherwise be training to cook and bake. Instead of attending a traditional college, these kids should head to culinary school.
If they choose to return to a traditional college in the future, it can be done while they work in their chosen field. They will have a solid career and attend college as simply a way to enrich their lives. Plus, adult students often gain more from the college experience than those who are there because they were told to go.
Many students think of college as strictly a social experience, and their studies play second fiddle to parties, dating, fraternities and sororities and other clubs. While this may be the right choice for some, other kids are more focused and ready to jump right into their career field.
