Three Bad Emo Stereotypes
The emo community is often connected to many stereotypes. Regretably, many of them are negative which has caused the drop in popularity of the emo culture. Below is a list of 3 common negative emo stereotypes.
.Being exceedingly emotional - Teenage hormones ablaze, being 'emo' offered guys the excuss to cry around their friends, a kind of emotional expression for boys which has normally been looked down on throughout human history. Although many looked at this as an advantage, other outsiders perceived this as being a weakness. And of course, there are some drama kings/queens that destroyed it for everyone.
.Always being depressed or suicidal - This kind of ties together with being far too emotional. Emos have an extremely bad stigma for being depressed for no real reason. This is yet another thing which had been largely brought on by overly active teenage hormones and going through the challenges of finding a position in existence. In the past number of years, modern society has done an inadequate job of showing mothers and fathers the right way to deal with their childrens growing bodies. A lack of comprehension of the physiological and psychological changes in the human body has given a lot of emos a justified reason to be depressed as their adults push harmful drugs down their throats or send them to psychiatrists in an attempt to reduce their parental duties of dealing with emotional changes in their children as they grow and develop from adolescence into adulthood. Furthermore , it doesn't help that many emo kids, like several smaller sized niches, are more likely to get bullied in school. This has resulted in an uprise in teen suicide over the years as a number of children and teens can't discover a way to cope.
.Self harming - Self abuse certainly is the most negative emo stereotype that's helped to scale back on the masses of kids referring to themselves as emo. Sadly, when the emo style originally emerged, self harming turned out to be part of the trend, raising deep concern for moms and dads around the globe . While not every emo was/is a self harmer, there were enough who were that caused this horribly negative stereotype to stay.
These are the worst of the worst, but there are several additional stereotypes which can be associated with the emo lifestyle. However, the negatives previously mentioned have driven lots of people who initially referred to themselves emo to shun the word and turn towards various other labels. It appears that the emo way of life could be on its way out the door.
