The first and probably obvious reason why hobbies are so powerful is that they take your mind off whatever is stressing you out. When you are concentrating on your hobby, whatever it is, it's much easier to just forget about all your problems for a little while. You can easily set your mind free for a while, and give it a much needed breather. It's much healthier than trying to do the same thing with alcohol, drugs, or other destructive behaviors. Another great reason to choose and involve yourself in a hobby is it gives you a sense of being in control. More often than not, it seems we are not in control of our lives. Our bosses, spouses, even children put demand that make us feel completely helpless, and under the control of our environment. When you participate in a hobby, you are the one in charge. On more fantastic reason to choose a hobby is that it gives you something to look forward to. If you don't have a hobby, your days off from work become just as monotonous as work itself. Since you don't have any plans, you spend the days doing more work, only now it's work around the house. But when you start doing a hobby in the evenings or on the weekends, you can have a compelling reason to get home and get busy. This will easily pull you through another week at the office. Whichever hobby you do, make sure it's fun and exciting, and that you do it on a regular basis. If you don't have any hobbies now try a few out and see how they feel. Take a look at any local hobby shop, or take a walk through your local sporting goods store and see what perks your interest. No matter what you choose, make sure to set aside some time to do it on a regular basis. When you find yourself looking forward to it, you know you've got a winner.
