Three Forms Of Glaucoma

People with healthy eyes have clear liquid which flows in and out of the anterior chamber of the eye

. During this process, the eye tissues get normal metabolism and nourishment. There are known a lot of eye problems or diseases affecting different parts of the eye. In particular, the eye problem called glaucoma just involves an abnormality in the anterior chamber. People with glaucoma have blocked liquid flow in the eye, which causes a pressure buildup in the eye. This condition is exactly named as glaucoma that may ultimately lead to visual loss or total blindness. Glaucoma is actually one of the most common eye diseases in the world.

In general, there are different forms of glaucoma. Open angle glaucoma is the more common type among all cases. The canals in these patients eye get blocked and then the fluid flow stops gradually. Another form is called angel closure glaucoma, which is caused by complete blockage of the canal. This form of glaucoma is more serious that it even restricts the immediate flow of the liquid in the eye. And angle closure glaucoma is also more urgent that there is always accompanied a rapid rise in the eye pressure. A third form of glaucoma is the normal tension glaucoma, which involves no blockage of the eye canals and no buildup of eye pressure, just as its name reflects. However, this group of patients is supposed to suffer from damage to the optic nerve, which in turn also causes visual loss.

Unfortunately, most glaucoma patients realize this condition even when they have noticed visual loss. There is nearly no obvious symptom of glaucoma. In order to detect glaucoma as early as possible, individuals should pay enough attention to various abnormal visual and non-visual conditions, such as eye pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, and seeing halos around lights and so on. Once there is a detected glaucoma of the angle closure form, the commonest solution is to surgically remove a part of the iris, facilitating the flow of the liquid in the eyes.
