Three Months Before Going Off To College

If you are a recent high school graduate that doesnt have to worry about prom dresses

on sale anymore, then you are in for a long summer that just wont end. It will be the longest summer of your life, and if you are going off to college in the fall, for the first time in your life, you will not be able to wait for school to start. Its an exciting time and leaving your parents will feel like a fresh taste of freedom since you have been waiting eighteen years for it. But before you get ahead of yourself and ruin it, there are quite a few things you can do to make your parents feel a little more at ease when you are finally gone.

After you put your graduation dresses back into your closet, you can start preparing yourself for a responsible freshman year of college. Many high school graduates do almost nothing during this last summer to prepare for college and this might be a mistake that you will regret for a very long time. The most difficult thing during your freshman year of college is not the academic aspect, although it can be one of the most challenging. But most people can handle their classes without failing. The most important thing during your first year is being responsible with your new found freedom. There will be a myriad of things that will pull you off the track of graduation. Fifty percent of the people who attend college will graduate from college and even fewer will graduate in four years because of the decisions they make during their first year.

So during the last summer before freshman year, educate yourself on how you can keep it together. It can be a difficult thing to stay away from drugs and alcohol when everyone in your dorm is doing it. Keep everything in moderation and you will be fine. Also, if you are a young woman, it may be a great idea to take a few self defense classes before you go off to college. This will help you immensely when you are trapped in a dicey situation on campus. Also, buy some form of protection for yourself when you have to stay on campus late or you just happen to be at a party during a late night. If you are ready to hang up those clearance prom dresses and become an adult, do a little research on how to be one and you will do much better that first year.
