Three Traits Of A jerk Boss
Telling the difference between a good boss and a bad boss depends on how their employees see them
. Although HR knowledge identifies bad management practices as one of the reasons constituting employees' dissatisfaction, the exact reasons unifying bad bosses are quantified based on their subordinates' feelings. Besides this, they evaluate him according to how he helps them successfully do their tasks. This assistance involves his proper management of the projects they handle, as well as the resources he has made available for their use.
These days, with the economy in the doldrums, finding a new job can be difficult. If in the past, when the economy was a little better, many employees opted to put up with their terrible bosses, what more today? However, not all bosses are aware of how they come across. Either they are too busy to take notice, or simply lack self-awareness; still, they cannot be held fully accountable of their actions unless it can be proven that they acted like jerks on purpose.
If you are a boss, you need to keep your actions in check all the time. Know if you identify with any of these behaviors that scream Jerk boss, beware! If you do...
You do not have a clear idea as to what in the world you are doing.
Being the boss may not license you to act like a god, but it does make you the leader within the four walls of your office. As the leader, you have to set the right examples for your employees to follow. Of the many aspects your employees would consider when looking at your work, your competence takes center stage. Being competent means you are leading them in a way that speaks how well you know the ins and outs of your team's operations. Your management style should show your members how your team's goals contribute to the overall objectives of the company.
You behave rudely towards your employees.
Everyone in the workplace deserves to be treated respectfully. Especially if you are the boss, treating your employees with respect ensures the harmonious relationship in your team. And harmony among coworkers in the working environment is something you can never compromise, lest it deters your team from successfully accomplishing team goals. Humiliating them and/or treating them like your personal slaves not only hurts them, but it also diminishes their self-esteem. Even if they do not react to such bad treatment, they would naturally resent you, and this could be detrimental to your team operations in the long run.
You are the be-all and end-all in the workplace.
Employees can easily detect a self-centered boss. If every project begins and ends with you, and you do not give them the opportunity to exercise their decisions, even in their own individual tasks, then maybe it is high time that you scrutinize your own moves carefully. Other identifiable traits with this behavior would be formulating expectations of your employees to boost your image, and chastising them from moves that tarnish your image.
