11.03.2010 Tiger Woods is no longer the No.1 golfer in the world? Yup, it's true. Woods, who has held the No.1 golf ranking in the world for 281 weeks, has fallen from his position to British golfer Lee Westwood on Sunday.

The Englishman Lee Westwood moved into the No.1 spot in the world on Sunday, while becoming the first European in 16 years to be ranked the No.1 golfer in the world. Just like Tiger Woods, Westwood did not win a major tournament this year and he's only the fourth player in history to be No. 1 without doing so.

"Whenever you can sit down and say, I'm the best in the world right now,' it's a dream that everybody holds," Westwood said.

Although, Westwood has only finished one tournament since the British Open because of a calf injury, he was statistically destined to move into the No.1 spot, just as long as German golfer, Martin Kaymer, the PGA champion, did not finish among he top two at the Andalucia Masters in Spain, which he did not, as Kaymer finished tied for 21st.

Tiger Woods has lost his No.1 ranking 10 times during his professional golf career, and, although he had held it for 281 weeks dating back to 2005, he seemed to be in good spirits about all.

"As far as the world ranking is concerned, yes, I'm not ranked No 1 in the world," Woods said. "In order to do that you have to win and I didn't win this year."

Although, it's premature to speculate how long Lee Westwood will retain the No.1 spot in the world for, it may not long before he relinquishes it, since he will be playing this week in the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, where he will be competing against Tiger Woods, Martin Kaymer, and Phil Mickelson, who will all have a chance to take over the No. 1 golf ranking in the world.
