Timbuk2 2.0 Laptop Messenger Bag Review

The Timbuk2 Commute Laptop Messenger Bag is made for the person who commutes to work or school as well as the frequent business traveler alike

. I even saw a YouTube video of a marathon bike rider who was raving about his Commute 2.0.

This is a redesigned and updated version of the previously designed model, and it has a lot of great features. It is made of durable nylon that can stand up to the elements. The bike rider reviewer mentioned that he dropped his bag more than once when he fell off his bike in slippery weather. While I don't think I'd want to drop the bag (with a laptop inside- yikes!) to prove that the material is durable, I guess it's nice to know this guy already has, and his bag lived to tell the tale :)

The large front flap is made of TPU. TPU is short for "thermoplastic polyurethane." This is an innovative type of rubber that is waterproof and flexible. This is the same protective "skin" that we buy and use to cover our cellphones and iPods.

The bottom of the Timbuk2 Commute is made of a heavy waterproof rubber material called Hypalon. The rubber bottom is definitely a good idea. I can't tell you how many times I have hesitated to put my laptop messenger bag on the ground because the bottom wasn't reinforced with rubber. Being able to set my bag down saves on my back and shoulders, which is always a good thing.

The design is what I would consider sleek and understated, yet stylish. It's definitely not too loud. You can choose from a variety of colors, whatever suits your personal style. I happen to like Potrero, which is like a dark beach sand color, similar to khaki, but that's just me.

The computer compartment within is lined with plush corduroy, safeguarding your laptop from scratches and dust. When I was using an inferior bag, I needed a computer sleeve to protect my laptop from scratches when I carried it around. It was an extra step that I didn't need.

The Timbuk2 Commute Messenger Bag is reasonably priced at $89 - $120 on Amazon and comes in three sizes, depending on the size of your laptop. The design and durable construction make this bag well worth it's price and I highly recommend it.
