Time For A Change

After looking over several medical transcription university web-sites and comparing options for MT training, I decided to consider FutureMT. The best reason for FutureMT is the CD-ROM part of class that allows more visual/hands on work and guidance. The online medical transcription courses is something I believe will be most beneficial. I also like the idea that you have thrown in bits of humor into the learning. I must admit one thing, I am an LPN of 20 years and I can almost imagine some of what will be presented in those stories. Your course outline seems to have the necessary courses that would help in the training without adding many unnessesary classes that would not be relevant. (One school teaches typing? Seems to me that would be a pre-requisite).

As you say, most of what we really need is on the job training. You also offer mentors to assist us as we go through the classes and I think that will be a real aid. I have been motivated to make a career change for several reasons and after much consideration have thought that MT would be ideal because I could still be in the medical field but would have A LOT less stress and frustration that I now experience as a nurse. I also have an added burden of taking care of my family due to my husband being diagnosed with Non-Hodkins Lymphoma and now being unable to work. I am hoping that this type of career can allow me to work from home and be near him more. Working from home, or even at our local rural hospital possibly, would make my life so much easier. I currently work 72 miles from home and it is very difficult to be so far away all the time.

As I continue to get older, I also find it hard to keep up with the demands required as a nurse and wonder how much longer I can physically and emotionally continue to do this work. My dream would be to work from home and enjoy more time with my husband, working in my gardens again and re-learning how to relax. With at least 15 more years ahead of me before retirement is possible, I actually dread the idea of continuing my current job. I just want something different to do in the final years of working. As I told a co-worker today, " I don't know what I want to do when I grow up!" At fifty years of age, it's time for a change and to make that decision for change. SN:0TG9Y2ESY

This will be my New Years resolution, to do something good for myself. Being able to study in my spare time (what time I have) is the number one reason for this course because I can study a few hours before work or on my days off and not feel rushed to complete my assignments. I can schedule myself in a way that I can complete the assignments on time, work on things I need to at home and still work at my job. I won't need to worry about travel and classroom time that would be needed in traditional learning. I guess that's the biggest "thumbs up" for training. I don't know where I will be 10 years from now but I would hope that I could be working steadily from "home" and maybe that would be on a beach someplace!!
