Time Management
I've lost count how often I've heard someone say that they ran out of time, or did not have enough time to accomplish something they were going to do. I know I use to speak about this on daily basis myself. When you consider those words, is it that you truly never had the time to accomplish it, or that you wasted the time you had? I know for me personally, when I use to repeat those words, it's not that I didn't have time to review a chapter from the book, obviously I did. I sleep for roughly 6 hours on a daily basis, which leaves me with 16 hours during which I can read the chapter. The problem was that I chose to use those 16 hours in such a way as that I couldn't do something that is important to me, I squandered the time period allocated to reading the books chapter.
Personally, the most effective way I've found to manage my time is to do the first things first. What this implies is that I try and do the important things right away. I get these things out of the way so I cannot use the excuse of not having sufficient time. I also rarely multitask. I know you'll be in shock when you read that, but I feel it's easier to give my undivided attention to something as a way to complete it perfectly, rather then sharing my attention to numerous things at once, and doing them all half arsed. Call me a perfectionist.
Discover what's important to you. How will you do this? By writing a list! Each evening, before going to sleep, I'll jot down a listing of the items I wish to achieve the next day. I'll write everything that I'm able to think of down on a sheet of notepad paper, that i carry within my wallet. In the age of technology, I'm sure you can even use your phone to do this, but I prefer the manual technique of actually writing everything down, as I feel I get a better sense of what I'm seeking to accomplish.
I'll make a list, and on this list, I'll then prioritise the entries. So, I'll number each item from most important to lowest. The main ones stands out as the ones I've got to do that day, so paying my electricity bill for example, otherwise my lights will go out, and my least important can be something I'm able to delay for another day, so for example, washing the car. Whilst washing your vehicle can be important, it's no where near as important to me as having no electricity.
Once I've numbered each item, I'll then leave the list for the following morning, and start on it the minute I arise. I'll get up that morning, get ready for work, and then do what needs to be done from the list as soon as possible. Nothing else gets in my way. I won't be distracted, as I know what I need to consentrate on. I strive to finish as many of these things as is possible, and then that evening I'll revue my list again. I'll then create another list for the following day, that will only include the things I must do which never got completed on my previous list. This is the way I manage time, and I suggest you try these simple steps if you're somebody who's ever had time management problems in past times.
Not only will you stop wasting time, as you'll no longer be distracted as you'll know exactly what you ought to do, but when you start taking note of the improvements in your life through the better handling of your time, you'll find that you can still have fun, and relax in the manner you want afterwards, therefore not missing out on anything, simply by doing the important stuff first.
