Times Have Changed, Everyone Needs To Learn Microsoft Word
When I went to school the only computers that were available to us to use were in
the computer lab and it was only available during certain times and those times were very limited. The teachers were starting to require our reports to be typed on the computer, but it was very basic program and many people didn't even have computers in their homes. That made it even more difficult to complete the assignments on a computer. There were times that I ended up using a typewriter. That was the more common thing when I was in school.
Then a few years ago my son came home from school and said he needed to type a report on the computer. He was in 4th grade. It was a stark contrast from my graduating from high school and years in college to now my 4th grader needing to type a report on a computer. I didn't even know what a computer was in 4th grade and they were the monstrous computers. He needed to type it and add pictures and other different formatting to his report.
I sat down thinking I needed to teach him how to use Microsoft Word, but he informed me that he had done plenty of things on the computers at school. He had Microsoft Word training at school as a 4th grader and possibly even younger. On the other hand, since I had not had much experience in school with computers I had taught myself most everything I knew about Microsoft word. As he and I worked together I realized that there were plenty of things that I still needed to learn about Microsoft Word and that he would continue to learn.
It is amazing to look at how times have changed and it is important that everyone realize how important it is to have Microsoft Word training. Whether you take the time to teach yourself, do online training or take a college course it is important to take the time to learn Microsoft Word. The other thing to consider is if you are a boss that you consider having an outside company come in and help your employees and do Microsoft Word training. Many of the older employees are probably in my boat where they haven't learned it over the years.
Regardless of where you are at in your life it is important to recognize that you can't stick your head in the sand and not take the time to learn Microsoft Word or other critical programs.
