Tips For A Successful Move

The experts at Gentle Giant Moving Company offer four simple tips for a stress-free and successful move. Not only do they provide high quality moving, storage supplies, and packing materials, they also have over thirty years experience in the business.

The first step in a successful move is picking the correct boxes. One should avoid using boxes that are not specifically designed for the purpose of moving household materials (such as those from the liquor store, appliances, etc) because their shapes and sizes are not easy to transport safely.

The second step is setting up a proper workspace and packing items once the appropriate boxes have been selected. A dining room or kitchen table is an ideal space to set up packing because it offers a lot of room and is at a comfortable height. A workspace can also be set up using two boxes if a table is not available. It is important to lay down a pad to protect the surface, and then put newsprint (also known as packing paper) over the padding to be used later. Also keeping several markers and rolls of packaging tape at your workstation aids the ease of packing. Once the workstation itself has been setup, the boxes should be put together correctly. Each box should be labeled by weight, indicating what types of items should be packed inside. To assemble any given moving box one first folds the top flaps over and places the box upside down on the workstation which allows them to easily access the bottoms flaps of the box, fold them appropriately, and apply packaging tape to secure them. The next step is to create "bumpers" for your items out of the newsprint, which conveniently is already on your workstation. Once the entire bottom of the box is filled with bumpers, the items can be wrapped, and packed into the box. After all items are secured within the box, top bumpers should be placed above them, and finally the top flaps can be closed, and taped. The viewer is then showed some tips to make sure the box is packed correctly, and finally advised how to properly label the packaged box.
