Tips For Choosing a Table

When deciding on the type of table that one wants to invest in it is important that one consider what the primary function of the table will be

. In some cases a table serves many functions in a home. The table that is selected must be able to meet the needs of all of the tasks that will be done on it.

A table that will be appropriate for a busy, young family will be different from a table that is used only for special occasions. While the cherry wood tables that have the glass like veneer on the tabletop are beautiful, they do not hold up well to the type of abuse they will need to be able to take from a growing family.

This does not mean that a young family is restricted to unflattering or unattractive furniture. But, one must look at the durability of the material the table is made from and how it will hold up to daily and rigorous use. Sometimes people find it most helpful to select a design that they like and then find the material that will work in the home it will be placed.

Hardwood is very durable and will hold up to wear. However, one will want to get a low gloss hardwood table that is stained to match the wood. One of the accidents that happen regular with small children is poking or writing on the table by accident. These 'accidents' can ruin a table that has a high gloss finish and is stained a color that makes the wood stand out when it has been scratched.

Some families choose to put a glass or Acrylic cover on the table to protect it during the growing years. However, this usually results in a pristine tabletop sitting on a frame and legs that have seen better days. If one wants to get the high gloss stained hardwood for a growing family, they will want to plan on sanding and staining the entire table every few years to maintain the beauty of the table.

Sometimes the least affordable tables that are made with weak frames are not the best choice for a family. Many tables play major roles in imaginative games. They may serve as a fort with a sheet thrown over the top. Other times they will become a boat with little hands and feet climbing on the surface and jumping to avoid sharks.

A durable hardwood table will be able to withstand this kind of pressure and weight. A light weight, weak framed table will fall or crack under the pressure. When looking at the cost for a table it is important to consider how soon it will have to be replaced. In many cases the cost of a mid-range hardwood table will be less than the three really inexpensive tables that one will have to buy over the same period of time.

Getting a solid table that is durable and will look good even when it has been scarred a bit will be an excellent type of table for a growing family.
